Welcome to Howletch Lane Primary School.
I would like to welcome you to our website.  I am proud to be the Head Teacher of Howletch Lane Primary School which is a happy, caring and very friendly school with lots to offer.  Over the years we have enjoyed success, not only in terms of excellent SAT results and academic achievement, but also in many subject areas including music and sport.

Our vision is to ensure that each and every child has the opportunity to thrive and achieve their potential at Howletch through a combination of excellent teaching, accurate assessment, a creative enquiry-based curriculum and opportunities to build confidence through participation in musical and drama-based activities.  We believe in the importance of music in encouraging teamwork, creativity, building confidence and having fun and our school orchestra and choir have performed with great reviews at venues such as the Gala theatre Durham and the Sage Gateshead.  Similarly in sport we encourage participation as well as competition in many areas such as football, rugby, cricket, tennis, athletics and netball.  Our after-school clubs are extensive offering something for everyone from 'fun and fitness' to 'cookery' and 'jazz club'.

Our 'Wings to Wisdom' school motto links to our Howletch school emblem the Howletch owl.  We aim to encourage the pupils of our school to spread their wings, making the most of new opportunities and becoming wise and informed citizens ready to face the challenges of their future lives.

We believe that all children learn best when they feel safe, secure, happy and valued.  With those things in mind, we strive to provide a caring and stimulating environment with an exciting curriculum which will engage all pupils.  We are very proud of our achievements in all areas and also our close community of pupils, staff, parents and governors.  We believe very firmly that parents and school must work together for the benefit of each and every child.  Families are encouraged to join with us on many occasions - whether to help with with reading, at school fairs, watching sports teams or to attend one of our many musical or drama performances.

This website aims to provide you with a flavour of our school and also to give you updated information about the school and events taking place.  We hope you enjoy your visit and find the information you are looking for, please contact the school if you need anything further.

Visitors often comment on the friendly, welcoming and caring atmosphere which they experience from a trip to our school.  We hope you will agree.  Please ring to make an appointment if you would like to know more or to arrange a visit for yourself.
